Would you agree with this?

                           WORDS ARE GIFTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok...I just heard someone say " Well, they can be but....."
We will get to that "but" later...for now let's look at the "gift of words".

Can you recall a recent time when you felt that someone gave you a gift in the form of words? And in fact it was a greater gift than any birthday or Christmas gift you have ever received!!!!!!!!

If so then perhaps it sounded something like this; " That was a great job you did on your  last project"!  You should be proud of yourself!!!! I see you have great potential!
                                OR

"You have your priorities in order -I commend you for that"!

If this or something of it's nature was said to you what might these "gifted words" do for your soul? Not hard to get in touch with that " good feeling" right?

We all desire and need affirmation/encouragement/appreciation/respect and recognition to enable us to keep on keeping on---agreed?

I mean let's face it as human beings we feed on this.. and can find ourselves motivated to do our best because of affirmations such as these.
                 Now comes the but....
But suppose with me that you found yourself in a hard place where even though you have given it your all...no-one ---that's right NO-ONE.....speaks up and says those long awaited for and ever so longed for words of appreciation and recognition........suppose those gifted words never came-what would the state of your soul be or over sometime what might it become?

I  suspect if this be reality for any of us, we could become discouraged/frustrated/lacking in motivation and perhaps hardened in heart.

Certainly in our "fleshly" heart we could react by entertaining a spirit of resentment, bitterness and yes, even anger -which might be of such a depth that it not be easily reckoned with........thus the hardened heart....too walled off-too incapable of receiving "gifts in the form of words" when and if they did come.

Though it be our nature to want/need/live for in some sense, all the kudos we feel we deserve......(make no mistake about it.....it is the bend of this writers heart) still if this be our major motivating purpose behind what we do--or who we do it for...we are missing the mark in a major way.

Thus dis-appointment will be our frequent companion. This is one companion we best not keep constant company with because it will take us places we do not want to go......you know, the attitudes that we take up when we focus on the kudos we so rightly deserve yet do not receive....... and it is all a slippery slide for sure.

I want to challenge myself here -as well as you-- to search the parameters of not only the state of our soul, but also the "whats" that motivate our heart to do what we do.
Let's take this challenge together....talk soon via my next posting.
